How will you increase the quality of your time?
Time is a zero-sum game: one hour spent working is an hour not spent with family, with friends, with passion projects, or on our health. So people treat it as linear, as if the only way to get more results is to spend more time. This most often shows up at work, where people feel that they have to spend more hours working than others to be successful.
But what if you thought about the quality of your time instead? Let’s take the case of a CEO: which would be more valuable, an hour spent answering emails and Slack messages, or an hour reflecting deeply on the strategic future of the business? I think we all know the answer.
And yet we don’t treat our own time respectfully. We just do what we are asked to do, what’s next on our to-do list, what we are accustomed to doing, without ever considering the question of what it means to spend our limited time meaningfully.
What is the most valuable thing you could do if you had a free hour? If it’s more valuable than the way you currently spend your time, why wouldn’t you do it instead? What’s stopping you?
