It’s Sunday! To wind down the weekend, and prepare for the week ahead, I find it helpful to reflect on what went well the past week, and what would make the upcoming week a success. Last week I reconnected with a number of people including old friends and former co-workers, and renewed those connections in…

Continuing the theme of the value of pausing, I wanted to share a more mundane version from my personal experience.”
Continuing the theme of the value of pausing, I wanted to share a more mundane version from my personal experience. A couple weeks ago, both of my kids were sick with a cold and waking up multiple times a night, and I was getting sick myself. Rather than push harder and hold myself to my…

For those affected by recent #layoffs, take your time before deciding what’s next. (I’m assuming here the privilege of financial security and not dealing with visa issues; obviously, in those cases, find security ASAP.) One of my friends was laid off by Twitter, and they were tempted to jump into the next opportunity that came…

I am a little shocked at how the Google #layoffs affected far more people that I knew personally than I expected. I didn’t realize how many long-time Googlers who had been there 15 or even 20 years were laid off until the goodbye posts started coming this week. The lack of loyalty, and the way the layoffs were handled impersonally, really bothers me, but I won’t dwell on that except to remember them as an example of poor #leadership.”

Great advice from my former coach, Masa Gong, PCC MAPP / Ex-Googler on not passively waiting for the ax to fall, but taking action to prepare yourself to handle what could be a difficult situation. And these recommended actions are good to take regardless, even if you’re not under threat of layoffs. By having your…

I attended a school information Zoom call last night. Out of 62 participants, there was only one other male-sounding name (most people had video off, so hard to evaluate directly). The school principal was female, the teacher representative was female, the other attendees were all moms looking out for their kids (admittedly, my wife was listening in with me). “

How do we move from “you and me” to “us”?” “” “I’ve had several clients recently share situations where they get frustrated with somebody else for not doing something, and say a variation of “If I can’t trust them to do it, I’ll have to do it myself!” The only options they can think of…
