Why is it that people who use LLMs extensively rave enthusiastically about their conversations?
LLMs are patient listeners who start any response with positive encouraging feedback, and then build on whatever you said. They are basically playing the “Yes, and…” improv game constantly, which provides constant validation for the user.
The downside of this is that it can lead users down some wacky rabbit holes of distortion because the LLMs can find support for any theory you offer (especially those that have crawled Reddit) and validate that worldview.
But let’s instead learn from what the LLMs do well.
People think influence starts with having great ideas. But the LLMs show that influence starts with listening to and validating what others say first. If you do that, you don’t even need to have any ideas of your own for others to listen to you.
Can you imagine how powerful it would be if your coworkers raved as enthusiastically about you as the LLM users? How much influence would you have in your organization? And it might be as simple as saying “Yes, that’s a great idea! And…”
I will talk more about how to build influence on Monday in my Maven lightning lesson webinar. Join the 3000+ people that have already signed up at https://lnkd.in/gAqNiQfN
If you attend live, I will stick around for an extended Q&A afterwards and would love to talk about your specific situation. Or you can leave questions in the comment section below and I’ll address them there.
See you Monday!
