Growing your influence skills will help you get the right things done.
In my 20s, I was that engineer calling the CEO an idiot at all hands meetings and wondering why my insights weren’t appreciated. I was objectively right in that case (that CEO led the company into bankruptcy in part because he ignored the facts I was sharing), but I was not effective at changing the outcome.
Over the next couple decades, I learned how to influence executives and get the right things to happen, which led to becoming the Google Search Ads Chief of Staff for over six years, leading business strategy and operations for a $100+B business. Since I had no direct reports, I had to get things done through other executives and cross-functional partners using those influence skills.
If you are frustrated because you can’t get the right things to happen despite your insights and expertise, you might benefit from what I learned to be more effective at steering others to the most valuable work.
I am offering a free 30 minute Maven webinar next week on this topic of growing your executive influence to get things done. Please sign up at https://lnkd.in/gUQ2Dudu even if you can’t make it live, as you’ll get the recording afterwards. I also plan to stick around for 30 minutes afterwards for Q&A if you want to bring a specific topic.
