How do you feel when you ask for help?”
“”
“I once took a coaching for managers workshop at Google, and the facilitator asked “Who likes to help people?” and everybody raised their hand. Then she asked “Who likes to ask for help?” and nobody raised their hand. And she just waited in silence for us all to register that if nobody asks for help, nobody gets the joy of helping others. ”

“And yet it’s so easy to forget – we often believe that asking for help means admitting weakness or a lack of ability, and so we feel that we have to do everything ourselves. But people want to help, and if we don’t include others by asking for help (when appropriate), they may even feel like we don’t trust them and their ability. ”

“Leaders in particular often feel they have to have all the answers and solve all the problems their team brings them. And yet when they do so, they disempower their team and become a bottleneck. Asking for others to step up and handle situations while providing guidance and support can free up the leader and the whole team to accomplish more. ”

“With that mindset, where might you give others the joy of helping? ”
