This could be trying to get “taken seriously” when you are a light-hearted person, or trying to awkwardly connect with people about their weekend because you’ve read about the value of connection, when you really just want to work. ”

“The challenge is that people can see your tension, and they automatically assume that it’s about them. So they feel they are in danger, because their ancestors who didn’t respond to uncertain tension as dangerous did not survive. So they go into fight-or-flight mode, and tense up, which you read as dangerous, and the vicious cycle escalates.”

“What happens if the cycle goes the other way? When you show up without tension, especially if you are the leader, then others relax, which then allows you to relax even more. ”
