I recently read about a Statistical Process Control theory principle that “Management is prediction”.

I also recently read a reference to Jeff Hawkins’s book A Thousand Brains, where he lays out the cognitive theory that “thinking is prediction”.

I connected these two ideas and explored the possibility that #management is organizational #cognition and connected that idea to way too many other things in my head, as it ended up being a 2200 word post with heavy hyperlinking.

All of that theorizing led to three takeaways:
1) Seek out alternative interpretations or reference frames to avoid getting trapped in one perspective.
2) Be thoughtful about what actions you consistently repeat, as actions reinforce the perspective that generated them.
3) Consider the tension between efficiency and #learning. Aligning to one perspective leads to greater speed, but risks being blind to the world changing in ways that invalidate that perspective.
