How do you optimize for the algorithm?
There’s a whole slew of people who will tell you what the latest changes in the LinkedIn algorithm are, so that you can get more views and engagement.
I recently had a friend tell me that I should add pictures to my posts to make them more visible in the feed. As an experiment, I’ll add a picture from my Sunday bike ride to see if that helps with this post’s views and engagement.
But mostly I don’t want to play that game of being dependent on staying ahead of the algorithm. I want to write good posts that are valuable to my readers.
If you value the insights I share here, I encourage you to sign up for my biweekly newsletter so you aren’t dependent on the algorithm either. In each issue, I link to what I’ve been writing and reading, as well as three articles that I found thought provoking. I’ll link to yesterday’s issue in the comments (thanks, algorithm!) and there’s a link to subscribe at the bottom.
P.S. I’ll make a tenuous connection between my picture and this post in that riding up a mountain on a bike doesn’t involve any secrets or tricks – it just requires the mental and physical discipline to keep turning the pedals. Spend your attention on doing the work, not on searching for ways to optimize or avoid the work.
