How do you deal with overwhelm?
I’m experiencing a bit of overwhelm this week, and I can feel my body wanting to shut down and withdraw from everything as a result. I did that for a couple hours yesterday afternoon, but that made things worse, as I then felt even further behind, and my Inner Critic part started beating me up for being lazy.
Today, I’m starting with easy tasks to get some momentum going, while acknowledging that I might not get it all done. But getting a few things done is better than getting nothing done. And while I have a couple stressful and ambiguous tasks, they can wait until I clear some headspace by doing a couple of the more straightforward tasks (like posting on LinkedIn 🙂 ).
Overwhelm is an interesting experience, because it can come from both external and internal sources. Sometimes I commit to too much, and that leads to overwhelm. This week I don’t think I have an unreasonable amount to do, but feel more stressed than usual, maybe because I’m underresourced in other ways (not exercising? not getting enough downtime?).
