Check out this report from ProjectNext Leadership with great insights on how leadership is evolving. Here are the key findings:
1. A drive for results exists without the leadership to make them happen.
2. Cross-functional collaboration is now an imperative, but it is hampered by leaders walking on organizational eggshells.
3. Change has changed, requiring new ways of leading.
4. The days of leaving senior leaders’ success to chance may be over.
I really see the tension between 1 and 2 with my clients. They are on the hook for results (1) and feel stressed about delivering those results, often without enough clarity and prioritization from the C-suite. That pressure means they don’t have time to invest in building the foundation for strong cross-functional collaboration (2), sometimes phrased as “I don’t have time for relationship building, I have deadlines to meet!” Learning to balance these tensions requires developing clarity on what is most important (3), and is often a reason why executives are investing in coaching (4).
