Prof. Robert Jaffe

Prof. Robert Jaffe

I just wanted to take this chance to praise Prof. Jaffe in the highest possible terms. As my physics advisor for the past 4 years, he has always been willing to take time out and talk to me whenever I had a question or problem. He found for me an internship at CERN (see my home page) which gave me the year off I really needed before starting grad school. Not only that, but he's a phenomenal teacher. I had him as a lecturer in 8.06, the advanced mechanics course here at MIT, and felt he was the best physics lecturer I had in my time at MIT, which is an opinion several other students share with me, as was evidenced by his high ratings in the Course Evaluation Guide. He was also the MIT Faculty Chair at one point, and as such, helped to effect a compromise in the revision of the academic calendar among many other things. What impressed me a lot is that he asked my opinions on many student issues when I came in to talk to him, just as a gauge of student opinion. He was unlike many other professors who assume they know what the students are thinking.

Anyway, I just wanted to offer kudos on a job being well done by Prof. Jaffe.
