They think that people will listen to them if they work their way up the promotion ladder. <\/p>\n<p>But a manager that has no way to get others to follow them other than relying on their title (and implied punishment via performance review) is a terrible leader. <\/p>\n<p>Leadership involves learning what others care about, and convincing them that they will achieve their goals if they follow your lead.
