{"id":1386,"date":"2023-04-16T14:17:14","date_gmt":"2023-04-16T14:17:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nehrlich.com\/linkedin\/uncategorized\/i-recently-read-about-a-statistical-process-control-theory-principle-that-management-is-prediction-2\/"},"modified":"2025-08-22T18:06:41","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T18:06:41","slug":"i-recently-read-about-a-statistical-process-control-theory-principle-that-management-is-prediction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nehrlich.com\/linkedin\/uncategorized\/i-recently-read-about-a-statistical-process-control-theory-principle-that-management-is-prediction\/","title":{"rendered":"<a href=https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/feed\/update\/urn%3Ali%3Ashare%3A7053370759351603200>I recently read about a Statistical Process Control theory principle that &#8220;Management is prediction&#8221;.<\/a>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently read about a Statistical Process Control theory principle that &#8220;Management is prediction&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>I also recently read a reference to Jeff Hawkins&#8217;s book A Thousand Brains, where he lays out the cognitive theory that &#8220;thinking is prediction&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I connected these two ideas and explored the possibility that #management is organizational #cognition and connected that idea to way too many other things in my head, as it ended up being a 2200 word post with heavy hyperlinking. <\/p>\n<p>All of that theorizing led to three takeaways:<br \/>\n1) Seek out alternative interpretations or reference frames to avoid getting trapped in one perspective.<br \/>\n2) Be thoughtful about what actions you consistently repeat, as actions reinforce the perspective that generated them.<br \/>\n3) Consider the tension between efficiency and #learning.
